It shares a time and tone with The Last of the Mohicans and biographies of Daniel Boone that I have read. The author's vast and commendable knowledge of history, hunting and nature is evident by his attention to detail. There are many typos and formatting glitches; but, the story was so exciting and fast-paced that I put up with them. I can't wait for books in this series. This is the best story that I have read in quite awhile. With just some simple proof reading and corrective formatting, this book could be *****+ and the stellar start of a popular series!Product details

I read the sequel first and enjoyed it so much I HAD to read the first one so I could get more insight on the characters and events that led to it. As a woman, this is not the genre of literature I typically read, but Mr. Holden has turned me on to something new. The character development is well scripted. There is love, romance, humor, and action, not to mention history. This is a good book to enjoy your cup of coffee to, and I am looking forward to the third book!
love reading about early American history. The American west is n interesting period in our history. I am not much on novels, but would recommend this book.
I was pleasantly surprised to find "The Desperate Search" a thoroughly enjoyably book to read. The author did a great job of introducing the characters and establishing the theme of the story. Mr. Holden did not "waste a lot of time" just to fill his book with pages of unnecessary and unneeded words. He succeeded in keeping the flow of the story moving quickly without losing the interest of the reader. Jedidiah Cole is an intriguing character, I'm looking forward to seeing what direction Mr. Holden takes him.
Not one to read fiction, I reluctantly took a look at this book at a friend's recommendation. I'd finished the free preview before I realized it. Hungry for more, I bought the book. I was not disappointed. I was on a desperate search. The descriptive narrative had me conflicted between lunging forward to discover the next plot twist and stopping to fully experience every craftily detailed descriptive scene. The writer engaged all my senses and plunged me into the experience...sight, smell, sound, taste, feel...I was in the story. Well crafted characters and historical accuracy satisfy the reader emotionally and intellectually. I will own the sequels. I highly recommend this read.
This is by far my most favorite period of time in all of history and this story did nothing to curb my thirst for the excitement as well as the hardships of the times. Well written and well researched, I am looking forward to reading the remainder of this series.
I forced myself to finish this only to find it definitely did not improve as the story progressed. I believe this is the worst writing I have ever seen in a book! Not only was the story ridiculous, but the punctuation was often incorrect and sentence structure was pathetic! Don't waste your time and money!
I hope the author does not get offended by my B-movie analogy but it applies to many favorites of mine. This is a adventure story sort of like "Last of the Mohicans" or "The Pathfinder", James Fenimore Cooper, two great books that are both free here. This book is just a "B" version of that style, that is meant as a compliment. I wish I was as good a writer so that I could explain myself. Oh well, it is a good story and if that is your taste too, you will enjoy it as I have. Thank You, and Author. This book is 100% CapeCodMediaKing Approved!
